Who We Are

HomeCalc.uk is a free online calculator service for UK homeowners. Our website address is: https://www.homecalc.uk

What Data We Collect

HomeCalc.uk does not require registration or login. We collect minimal data:

• Email addresses — only if you voluntarily submit them via our email capture form. We use these to send occasional home improvement guides. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• Usage data — anonymous analytics via Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages visited, time on site, device type). No personally identifiable information is collected.
• Advertising data — Google AdSense may use cookies to serve relevant advertisements. See Google's privacy policy for details.
• Contact emails — if you email us via our contact page, we store your email address and message content solely for the purpose of responding to your enquiry.

Data Retention

We retain different categories of data for different periods:

• Newsletter email addresses — retained until you unsubscribe. Upon unsubscription, your address is removed from our mailing list within 30 days.
• Contact enquiry emails — retained for up to 12 months after the conversation is resolved, then permanently deleted.
• Analytics data — Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months under our GA4 configuration. After this period, user-level and event-level data is automatically deleted by Google.
• Advertising cookies — managed by Google AdSense. Cookie lifespans vary by type; see Google's advertising privacy documentation for specific retention periods.

We do not retain any calculator input data. The values you enter into our calculators are processed entirely in your browser and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for analytics and advertising. The cookies used on HomeCalc.uk fall into the following categories:

• Strictly necessary cookies — These are required for the website to function correctly. They do not collect personal data and cannot be disabled.
• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics / GA4) — These help us understand how visitors use the site by collecting anonymous data such as pages visited, time on site, and device type. No personally identifiable information is collected. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — These are used by Google to serve relevant advertisements based on your browsing activity across the web. You can manage your ad personalisation preferences at Google Ad Settings.
• Third-party tracking (Meta Pixel) — Used for measuring the effectiveness of any promotional campaigns. You can manage your preferences via Facebook Ad Preferences.

You can disable all non-essential cookies by adjusting your browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some features on this site.

Third-Party Services & Data Processors

When you submit your email address to subscribe to our newsletter, your email is transmitted to and stored by the following processors:

• Convex (convex.dev) — primary subscriber storage. Your email address is stored in our Convex database along with the source page (e.g. homecalc-brick-cost), the date of subscription, and a UTM medium of website. Convex acts as a data processor on our behalf. Safeguards: Convex's standard processor terms are in effect; data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest; database access is restricted to administrative API keys held only by the site owner; deletion requests are honoured within 30 days. • Beehiiv (beehiiv.com) — newsletter delivery and email marketing automation. Your email address, source attribution and subscription date are sent to Beehiiv to deliver our newsletter. Beehiiv acts as a data processor on our behalf. Safeguards: Beehiiv's standard processor terms are in effect; every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link; on unsubscribe your address is removed from our active mailing list within 30 days; API access is restricted to administrative keys held only by the site owner. • Vercel (vercel.com) — website hosting and the serverless function that handles your subscription request (/api/subscribe). Safeguards: Vercel's standard processor terms are in effect; data is encrypted in transit (TLS); Vercel is SOC 2 Type 2 certified. Runtime log retention: Vercel serverless function logs are retained per Vercel's plan defaults (between 1 hour and 30 days depending on plan tier). Under normal operation we do not log your email address — only the timestamp and source page are recorded. On the deadletter-recovery path (when neither Convex nor Beehiiv was able to persist your subscription), your email address is logged once so we can re-enter it manually rather than lose it; that log entry is purged at the standard Vercel retention horizon. Your email is never stored in a Vercel-hosted database. See Vercel's privacy policy and Vercel's data processing addendum.
• Google Analytics (GA4) — anonymous traffic analytics (does not receive your email)
• Google AdSense — advertising (publisher ID: ca-pub-7669653579400681; does not receive your email)
• Google Fonts — typography (DM Serif Display, Source Sans 3)
• Meta Pixel — campaign measurement (may receive a hashed Lead event when you subscribe, per Facebook's standard events)

Your email address is never sold, rented or shared with parties other than the named processors above. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter we send, or by emailing contact@homecalc.uk to be removed from our Convex store directly.

Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right of access — You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — You can ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure — You can request that we delete your personal data.
• Right to restrict processing — You can ask us to limit how we use your data.
• Right to data portability — You can request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to object — You can object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
